We Published the Video & Streaming Market Map

We compiled 369 video, streaming, short-form, short drama, and AI video players and regulatory milestones across the US, China, Korea, Europe, Japan, and beyond into a single interactive table — filterable by usage, revenue, country, 13 value-chain categories, generation, origin, screen, genre, and revenue model.

Our fifth market map covers video and streaming. We compiled 369 entries across the US, China, Korea, Europe, Japan, and the rest of the world — spanning long-form UGC platforms, short-form feeds, subscription OTT (SVOD), free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST), legacy broadcasters and pay-TV operators, film and TV studios, cinema chains, micro-dramas, creators, connected-TV operating systems, AI video generation tools, and regulatory milestones — into a single table. All figures are benchmarked as of October 13, 2026.

What stood out while building it

  • YouTube — not legacy broadcast or Netflix — is already the #1 destination on living-room television screens. According to Nielsen The Gauge in July 2026, streaming captured a record 49.0% of US television viewing while cable fell to an all-time low of 18.7%. On a single-service basis, YouTube (excluding YouTube TV) led all platforms at 14.2% of TV screen time — 5.0 percentage points ahead of second-place Netflix — while Alphabet's first standalone annual disclosure put 2025 YouTube revenue (ads plus subscriptions) above \$60 billion, surpassing Netflix's \$45.18 billion full-year revenue.
  • Legacy Hollywood consolidation and the micro-drama boom are unfolding simultaneously. In traditional media, Skydance completed its \$8 billion merger with Paramount in August 2025 and then outbid Netflix in a hostile tender offer for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), closing a ~\$110 billion acquisition on October 6, 2026. Meanwhile in China, daily time spent on micro-dramas (129 minutes per user, +28.4%) overtook long-form video, and ByteDance's free ad-supported app Hongguo Short Drama surpassed 200 million monthly active users — flipping China's micro-drama business model from per-episode coins to free ad-supported viewing.
  • AI video generation retreated from standalone consumer social apps and converged on credit subscriptions, production tools, and APIs. After launching the Sora 2 social app in October 2025 and announcing a \$1 billion equity and 200-character licensing pact with Disney in December 2025, OpenAI announced on March 24, 2026 that it would shut down the Sora app and API completely, voiding the Disney deal before funds changed hands. By contrast, Kuaishou's Kling (可灵) disclosed quarterly revenue exceeding CNY 850 million in Q2 2026, while Google Veo 3 / Flow, ByteDance Seedance / Jimeng, Runway, Higgsfield, HeyGen, and Synthesia scaled paid credit subscriptions and enterprise APIs.

Notes on methodology

  • Corporate revenue rows (such as Alphabet, Netflix Inc., and CJ ENM) and individual service usage rows (such as YouTube, Netflix app, and TVING) are listed separately so revenue and user metrics can be sorted cleanly without double counting.
  • Every figure is tagged with a source verdict: ✔ for primary filings and official disclosures, △ for press reports and third-party research firms, and ✘ where claims conflict with primary documents.
